9th International Mini-Textiles Triennial
26 June–3 January 2010
Musée Jean Lurçat/Contemporary Tapestry - Angers - France
For the sixth time in Angers, the Jean Lurçat/Contemporary Tapestry Museum is presenting the International Mini-Textiles Triennial, from June to January 2010.
The theme artists have been asked to explore is "Water: With or Without?"
The first triennial was held in 1993 and for over fifteen years now the City of Angers and its Contemporary Tapestry Museum have been organising this eagerly awaited encounter between today's textiles and the public.
The smallness of the works is no obstacle to talent and diversity, with artists famous and less famous, young and not so young exhibiting side by side. Each of them creates a work based on thread or the idea of thread, whose size must not exceed 12x12x12 cm in surface or volume.
The works making up the exhibition are then selected by a jury of artists, experts, art historians and journalists. As a rule 300–500 artists submit works, of which around 50–70 will ultimately be seen by the public.
At the triennial the Jean Lurçat/Contemporary Tapestry Museum will also be exhibiting its mini-textile collection of more than 80 pieces, which has already been shown a number of times in France and abroad.

"Decongélation" , the work presented by Giuliana Balbi to the Committee was accepted, you will be exposed to Jean Lurçat / Contemporary Tapestry Museum in Angers.
Giuliana Balbi works with the plot, then a base attaching the fiber-art. This day, as we all know, embrace the diversity of materials and expands in the most daring compositions language. Giuliana Balbi usually use strips of photographs interwoven with the use of nylon as a fabric. He calls it fototessitura. In this case, with "Decongèlation" deviates from these parameters, which are not binding, however, in a research project that continually grows, adds and changes, yet somehow retain the echo, materials in structural tangle of small object that condenses into a clot of nylon and silicone, among which stands on end with load-bearing some shiny copper wire. Delicate and poetic reference to the dissolution of a handful of ice water, a fundamental element of life, and the theme of this event here has been consolidated in the ice, but is about to melt, opening itself to its natural flow of liquid. The work clearly stands as a metaphor for different psychological conditions in human behavior: the closed state in the ice leading to a stagnation of life, a crystallization of the mind and thoughts that are generated by it and at the same time, with the thaw, a desire for liberation from the constraints of physical movement is psychic, which provides the substance of life. Decongèlation, starting to melt, sucking in the liquid state, thus represents the will of psychic dall'involucro rid of the ice freezes, the need for pure water, to live and think.
